It’s Sports Day for KIRA PRIMARY SCHOOL,19/July/2014 at Kira Sports Ground. It’s a day that pupils of Kira Primary school have been waiting! It comes once in a year. The school is fairly populated and has four Houses represented by colors;Blue, Green, Yellow and Red. Its’ a mixed day school. All the young stars of DON BOSCO CALM get their primary education there. Our young stars are spread in all the four Houses of the school. The competition was among the four Houses and the House that emerges the best will be proclaimed the Champions of 2014.There were several invited guests among whom were; parents, teachers from other schools, Heads of other friendly schools, Minister of Games and Sports Kira Town Council, CID-police officer, Chair man Uganda National Teachers Organization (UNATO), District Education Officer(DEO)-Wakiso District, and several well-wishers , The Guest of Honor was the District Sports Officer.
At long last the awaited day came- 21/06/2014. The day our young stars would have to prove themselves. The days they have been sowing in tears. The day they would show their hidden talents. Child And Life Mission (CALM) young stars after a good breakfast, started their journey for the grand festival at Bat Valley Primary School in Kampala at 8:15 am after niece breakfast. We were 50 in all; 44 boys, 4 uncles, 1 aunty and myself. We traveled by Coaster and two cars. We arrived at the venue 1hour 15minutes from the time of departure, right in time.
Grey hair portrays wisdom. In the days of yore our great grandparents would sit around a fire place and narrate educative stories to the youngsters. These stories made them very brave and determined to face the future. They were taught how to overcome difficulties and thereafter instill good into them. However, it’s sad that everything has vanished and perished in the wilderness. We began to wait for a renaissance which I think to be a dream.
In the early years of the 19th Century, there was a young gentleman named John Melchior Bosco. Through sheer hard work and persistent studies he was ordained a Priest for abandoned youth. He eventually came up with the idea of The Oratory where he could gather them on a Sunday for Christian upbringing. He gave ample time for games apart from music and Sunday instruction. But a singular feature of the day was “The Good-Night-Talk” before the boys could head for slumber. And to this day the Salesians of Don Bosco have been faithful to this Tradition of the Good Night. Is this not the renaissance I have been dreaming of?
