The child has one intuitive aim: self development

Brass Band

At the beginning of this year, we embarked on a mass training program of brass band playing for all the primary school going children from the Centre. This was so because of the serious need of having many brass band players within our community. Our youngsters acquire music skills from their early age and develop them little by little. Besides, we do all agree that these boys need entertainment and music is one of the best ways of creating joy among the young and in a Salesian community just as Don Bosco says that a Salesian house without music is like a body without a soul. The other reason for this campaign is that majority of the children who are already in brass band are completing their studies and are preparing themselves to build their own future and to live independently and for this reason we decided to train all the primary school going children. The children showed interest and portrayed a positive attitude towards this arrangement which made it quite easier for the trainer as he normally arrives and finds that the boys have set up everything just waiting for him.

This positive attitude enabled the primary boys to learn fast and on 14th/11/2015 they had their first outing where they were invited to play at a function at a nearby primary school. This aroused anxiety among them as they waited for the day to come and enjoy their first outing. The boys were very happy as they said it was a fruit from their tireless effort and lengthy training. However, the training continues to ensure that they become perfectionists as regards brass band. This success is attributed to Uncle Wandera Joseph who is training our boys in learning how to play the brass band instruments.
